What are programs doing to prepare teachers to realize UDL in their classrooms? 4 Replies

I would love to have a discussion about what different programs are doing to help prepare teachers to understand and implement UDL and the UDL Guidelines in classrooms.  Anyone willing to share?Continue

My university has invited me in to student teacher classes to show examples of implementing UDL principles.
Next time, I will bring students, not just pictures, voices, videos and student work.
We also invite our student teachers into classes to see UDL in action- learning labs.
Now to make the university classes model UDL!

This is interesting.  I am doing my dissertation work on the student teaching process and would love to hear the conversation about how we can get our university programs to embed UDL into their courses so that student teachers are aware of the importance of using the UDL Guidelines.  The university with which I am working on the project is interested in implementing professional learning communities among teachers, student teachers, and university supervisors.  What a great way to get everyone on board!

Hi Brian

I have discovered a few schools that have faculty preparation which is the first step and will be glad to contribute to this discussion as I research teacher prep programs.

I am starting the dissertation process and am interested in finding out what universities teach the UDL Framework to teacher education candidates. Then find out if the UDL Framework is taught to those that are on the regular education track as well as those on the education specialist track.  Once those schools have been determined, I would like to conduct interviews and surveys to the faculty and their teacher ed candidates as to the importance of UDL and the impact that UDL may have on learners with diverse backgrounds and abilities.  Anyone have any feedback or ideas for me regarding current research in this area?  Many thanks
