Topic 3

  • Steps for the PAL Process

    1. Identify the lessons/unit of study that you want to focus on – choose a unit that is not effective for all your students
    2. Set goals for what you want students to know and be able to do
      1. Align goals to the standards, both state and district
    3. Analyze current status, i.e. identify the current methods, materials, and assessments that you use and identify any potential barriers to success in the methods, materials, and assessments
    4. Apply UDL to the methods, materials, and assessments (formative and summative assessments)
      1. Provide multiple means of representation
      2. Provide multiple means of action and expression
      3. Provide multiple means of engagement

Decide the duration of the unit of study

    Write your lessons

    Organize your materials

    1. Teach the lesson/unit
      1. Evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson (have all students achieved the intended lesson/unit goals?)
      2. Revise as needed
