with origami. Unfortunately she discovered it after she had completed instruction re
the Sun. I was looking for additional review material prior to a vocab quiz -
it was a perfect fit. Students enjoyed the lesson and gave me a lot of positive feedback
The goals of this lesson were:
Provide students with an opportunity to practice listening and following directions
Create an environment where it was ok to admit you didn't understand and needed help
Provide additional review material prior to a vocab quiz
I used a document camera to provide more visual access as I demonstrated the steps/
folds required. Student experts had an opportunity to volunteer to circulate around the classroom
and offer help as requested.
I had students add additional info to the origami form. After students had completed the form,
I had them study the Sun info incorporated in it and look for patterns (ultimately they discovered an
alternating pattern of types of radiation and surface features - they used a highlighter to
color code this pattern)
Students used then used the info in the origami form to answer a set of 4 questions.
Students were thoroughly engaged, the origami form was "cool" and the incorporation
of info relevant to the current topic was "ingenious" (terms in quotes are from students)
