Classroom Observation- I observed Claudette Chmura. She was introducing the novel TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. I observed many UDL guidelines in her class; will have the details tomorrow. It was a very effective lesson. The background knowledge was strongly being built through a very engaging video. Essential question was posed and students had an opportunity to think and make notes on what they watched in conjunction with the intro given by the teacher. . The historical context was very nicely provided for this great classic.

Building background knowledge through video and jig saw activities, was significantly effective to engage students in reading Moby Dick. Especially effective was employing an anticipatory guide/reaction activity prior to reading the book which connected the story to student's real life experiences on most of the themes in the story.
Did you use the UDL Guidelines or the Educator's Checklist to guide your observation?
